The recent events around the country attest to the concern of intellectuals that it might be time for the people to do a reality check and embrace those foundational values that once were considered the pride of the USA.

Considered a model nation for prosperity, America has been a beckon of hope for people around the world who seek good fortune. It is a country that has placed honesty, respect, empathy, civility, and optimism as its foundational values. It is due to these progressive values that are ingrained within the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence that America came to hold a prestigious position among all the nations.
It is by the virtues of these idealisms and principles that the Americans have been so forward-minded and welcoming to immigrants seeking a new beginning. They welcomed people from all over the world to work for the nation and contribute to its growth. That glimmering picture has somewhat lost its glamour in recent times.
Indications of Decline in Values
The debate and conflict start as soon as you take a glance at the morning newspaper or turn on to check out the hourly news. Racism, acts of terrorism, school shootings, and other anti-social and criminal acts have become a daily occurrence. If recent events are of any indication, things keep escalating without showing any signs of mellowing down.
A significant percentage of the American population suffers to make ends meet with economic problems being a constant, which is one of the prime reasons that have pushed people to the edge aiding to the decline in values.
These growing antithetical instances convey and dissipate hate, greed, selfishness, rudeness, and lack of empathy among the general population. There have been examples in abundance in television, social media, and likewise, highly impressionable on the youth of the nation leading to further decline.
It is by the virtue of the American values that the country has marched ahead against all odds in the path of prosperity. The recent decline in values resonates in the declining socio-economic conditions of the nation as well, diminishing the foundational morals and principles of the nation.
At such a juncture it falls upon the citizens to find the path back to the traditional values that carried the essence of the American society. Although it makes sense to stay vigilant of the threat domestic and international and take a stand against the same. However, while achieving that if the process leads to the decline in mortality of the people and the country, then it is too hefty of a price to pay.
More than often political agenda become the key influence in propagating negativity which manifests in the people leading to loss of morality. It is now at the behest of the people to decipher the wrong from the right and think with clarity. Only then can America be great again.
